Vintage Konya kilim – 180 x 150 cm

Across this Konya kilim, woven some 60 years ago, five horizontal bands follow one another like seasons changing colour, vivid orange, olive green, garnet red, deep black, then red again, each carrying two large hooked diamonds that answer one another in mirror. Between each band, a frieze of small S-shapes sleep in their cells, that symbol of infinity that weavers slipped in like a silent prayer, the promise that nothing ever quite stops.

Across its 180 x 150 cm (5'11" × 4'11"), a dense ivory border, scattered with four-pointed wheels and those same repeated S-shapes, closes the whole with the quiet rigour of the great kilims of Konya. Five bands, five moods, a single hand to hold them all together.
