The orange of Sivas is a colour found nowhere else. Within these 125 x 110 cm (4'1" × 3'7"), almost square, it radiates in broad and generous bands, alternating with blue-grey, cream and brick red in a horizontal rhythm that evokes the striated landscapes of Central Anatolia seen from above.
Woven by hand some 60 years ago, each band carries its own small motifs, chevrons, diamonds, winged forms woven with that precision characteristic of Sivas, like so many phrases in a language no longer spoken but still felt.
