Adana, South-Eastern Anatolia, approximately 65 years old. At the centre of these 139 x 99 cm (4'7" × 3'3"), two large butterflies face one another in their powder pink and water green fields, carrying in their wings ochre and orange motifs woven with a precision that time has not touched. Around them, Caucasian stars keep watch, connected by arrows that weave invisible links between sky and earth, man and woman, the visible and what cannot be said.
The palette is unexpected for Adana. Soft, luminous, almost spring-like. There is in this piece a rare grace that can no longer be made, and will not be found twice.
