Adiyaman, in South-Eastern Anatolia, bears the imprint of Kurdish tribal traditions: thick wool, vegetable dyes, motifs passed down from generation to generation without ever being written down. Woven by hand some 75 years ago, this 130 x 116 cm (4'3" × 3'10") kilim is among the oldest in the catalogue. Its horizontal bands of red, orange and yellow, punctuated by stars and medallions in midnight blue, have crossed three quarters of a century without losing any of their intensity.
