Almost square, almost one of a kind. These 232 x 220 cm (7'7" × 7'3") from Antalya defy the conventions of Mediterranean kilim from the outset, and this unexpected format seems to have freed the weaver: she filled the space without hierarchy, without a dominant axis, letting her concentric diamonds unfold in every direction like a breath.
Black structures everything without crushing anything, the yellows burn, the reds hold, and here and there a delicate mauve serves as a reminder that this wool, spun and dyed by hand 55 years ago on the heights of the Turkish coast, obeyed no predetermined plan. It is the instinct of a hand that knew exactly what it was doing.
