There is in this kilim something unusual for the region: that powdery mauve ground, almost lavender, which one does not expect to find on the Mediterranean coast, and which gives these 295 x 185 cm (9'8" × 6'1") a luminous softness that time has only deepened.
Five hexagonal medallions follow one another along the central axis, each different from the last in its interior colour, terracotta, midnight blue, cream, as though the weaver had decided along the way never to repeat herself. Around them, a generous cream border holds a collection of small mirrored motifs, sage green, bordeaux, blue-grey, woven with a precision that betrays sixty years of intact craft.
