Two colours, a single idea, and total hypnosis. Across these 241 x 175 cm (7'11" × 5'9"), black diamonds chain together endlessly on a cream ground, forming an optical network that shifts with the angle of the eye, as though the wool were in permanent motion beneath the gaze.
A form repeated by hand is never quite identical to itself. Each diamond carries the imperceptible trace of the gesture that wove it, and it is precisely this slight irregularity, invisible at first glance, that transforms a motif into something alive. A machine would have produced perfection. The Afghan weavers produced something better than that.
