A sky-blue ribbon descends the centre of these 294 x 197 cm (9'8" × 6'6"), calm and luminous, framed by two burnt orange expanses that radiate on either side. Across all three zones, small rectangles float freely, saffron yellow, violet, blue-grey, like confetti suspended in the air a moment before touching the ground.
There is a lightness in this piece that one would not expect at this scale. The Afghan weavers found something rare here, a simple, almost childlike joy, woven into a natural wool that gives it body and warmth.
