Some rugs are looked at. This one is felt. Within these 297 x 198 cm (9'9" × 6'6"), the Afghan weaver did something unexpected: he let the void breathe, vast expanses of cream and blue-grey stretching out in silence, before orange and red erupt in precise, sovereign bursts, like embers in a quiet room.
This is not a kilim one chooses to furnish a floor. It is a piece one chooses because one has understood that certain objects change the energy of a space, and that an Afghan wool woven by hand, in these proportions and these colours, will never resemble anything other than what it is.
