Balikesir, North-Western Anatolia, 60 years old. Within its 260 x 145 cm (8'6" × 4'9"), this kilim advances in layers. Its broad horizontal bands of red, ochre, black and cream follow one another with a regularity that soothes, each carrying its own small geometric medallions like so many notes on a staff.
A composition simple in appearance, and one never tires of looking at.
