Some pieces stop the eye before one has even had time to understand them. These 290 x 155 cm (9'6" × 5'1") are one such piece, a mosaic of hexagonal medallions covering the entire surface without ever repeating, each inhabited by a different motif, each coloured in a shade its neighbour does not have, as though the Barak weaver had wanted to prove that infinity could be contained within a single rug.
Born in the 1970s in South-Eastern Anatolia, in a state of preservation that defies time. Deep violet sits alongside anise green, terracotta answers solar orange, blue-grey tempers what might otherwise overflow and nothing overflows. There is in this composition a total freedom that belongs only to the great tribal pieces, those that answered to no commission and no rule.
