Cal, in the Menderes valley in Western Anatolia, 65 years old. Within its 134 x 115 cm (4'5" × 3'9"), this kilim placed everything on a single large diamond that occupies the entire field. Its concentric layers of cream, orange, blue-grey and khaki green lock into one another with a precision that creates an almost hypnotic effect, as though the motif continued beyond the fabric itself.
A rare composition, that proves it is sometimes enough to have a single idea, carried through to the very end.
