A deep plum ground scattered with hundreds of tiny embroidered diamonds, white, orange, green, red, blue, drifting across the surface like stars in a night sky. Within these 124 x 122 cm (4'1" × 4'0"), almost square, the Cicim technique adds to each motif a slight relief, a texture the eye does not fully see but the hand intuits, and which transforms this kilim into something one wants to touch as much as to look at.
Woven some 65 years ago somewhere in Anatolia, framed by two bands of vivid orange that warm the whole like two embers on either side of the night. A piece rare in its technique, in its format, in this way of being at once dense and light.
