A net of black threads grids these 127 x 113 cm (4'2" × 3'9") like a lace stretched over light, and within each diamond thus formed lives a small embroidered motif, pink, orange, yellow, pale green, catching the light differently with each shift of the eye thanks to the slight relief of the Cicim technique.
This is a piece one discovers slowly. First the overall pattern, then the details that emerge, then that almost tactile texture which betrays the dozens of hours spent embroidering thread by thread onto the base weave, some 60 years ago, somewhere between Central and Eastern Anatolia, by hands that knew that beauty resides in what one does not see at first glance.
