Three large hexagons follow one another along this Corum kilim, woven some 65 years ago, each a small world unto itself, almond green and fuchsia pink for the first, ivory and candy pink for the second, soft green and vivid pink for the last, like three variations on the same theme that a weaver might have composed across her seasons. A deep terracotta ground envelops them, scattered with small bluish crosses and sparse diamonds that populate the space without ever crowding it.
Broad orange and slate grey borders, animated by zigzag motifs and small multicoloured triangles, close the whole with a generosity rare for a piece of this size. Across its 177 x 126 cm (5'10" × 4'2"), this kilim owns an uncommon chromatic boldness, that brilliant pink running through all three medallions gives this ancient piece an almost contemporary radiance, an encounter between two eras that does not happen twice.
