Two orange silhouettes rise one beneath the other on this small Corum kilim, like twin flames born of the same fire, each crowned with hooks that curl outward. Woven some 60 years ago, it holds within its 90 x 55 cm (2'11" × 1'10") the full force of an ancient motif, repeated with an almost ceremonial precision.
The deep brown ground sets the orange and dark red that surround it vibrating, while a blue-grey border, doubled by a white sawtooth edging, closes the whole with clarity. Small in size, immense in character, this kilim has that rare presence of pieces that need nothing else to inhabit a space.
