The tree of life rises at the centre of these 148 x 100 cm (4'10" × 3'3"), its branches laden with motifs that resemble birds settled in the foliage, motionless, as though they had decided to stay there forever in this Esme wool woven some 65 years ago.
All around, the colours have dissolved with time into a softness of aged pink, sage green and golden ochre that the abrash crosses in gentle waves, as though the light itself had been woven into the weave. This is a piece that speaks in a low voice and is not forgotten.
