Esme, Western Anatolia, 65 years old. Within its 280 x 155 cm (9'2" × 5'1"), this kilim organises itself with a rare rigour. Its central medallions are framed by concentric borders that lock into one another, terracotta, ochre, sage green and blue-grey, each layer adding its own voice without ever covering the others.
The vegetable-dyed wool has taken on with time a golden patina that warms the whole without weighing it down.
