The kilims of Fethiye are recognisable by this way of weaving time in bands, one after another, like layers of sedimentary earth. Within these 245 x 150 cm (8'0" × 4'11"), golden khaki and brick red alternate with a hypnotic regularity, scattered here and there with small white and orange motifs that surface like memories in an ordered mind.
What strikes you is the freshness. A Mediterranean wool that has kept its radiance, colours that have not sought to age, a composition that breathes. There is in this kilim the particular lightness of the Turkish coast, something sun-filled and tranquil that belongs only to pieces born beside the sea.
