Kağızman, at the far eastern edge of Anatolia, on the threshold of the Caucasus. Within these 130 x 110 cm (4'3" × 3'7") some 65 years old, diamonds layer over one another in black nets on a ground that has dissolved with time, orange, ochre, mauve and salmon pink mingling in a deep abrash that gives the surface the appearance of autumn light seen through mist.
This is a piece that whispers where others shout. The wool has aged in these golden and terracotta tones with a softness that belongs only to the kilims of the East, those that have crossed long winters and burning summers without ever losing their soul.
