Kayseri, Central Anatolia, approximately 65 years old. Two panels inscribe themselves at the centre of these 146 x 83 cm (4'9" × 2'9"), framed by cream scrollwork that undulates around them like held waves, each carrying at its heart a red and ochre X composition of remarkable precision. At the bottom, a garden of small red flowers blooms on a khaki ground, as though the weaver had wanted to end her piece on a note of softness.
The patina of this natural wool is that of great age, tones that have dissolved into one another with time until they can no longer be separated. The deep brown borders teem with pink, grey and yellow motifs that overflow with energy while holding their place. An inhabited piece, generous, that has lost nothing of its soul.
