Vintage Komurgen kilim - 330 x 185 cm

There are kilims that make one dizzy, and this is one of them. Woven in Komürgen some 65 years ago, an immense lattice of diamonds chains together along the full height, each edged with an ivory outline that winds like a current, undulating from one medallion to the next without ever breaking, that almost aquatic effect that gives the feeling of looking at a braided river rather than a kilim. At their heart, small motifs shift at every level, crosses, stars, snowflakes, orange, midnight blue, sage, like reflections moving beneath the surface of the water.

Across its 330 x 185 cm (10'10" × 6'1"), a double red border, dense and vibrant, closes this hypnotic composition with the generosity of the great kilims of South-Eastern Anatolia. One does not easily look away.
