Koprubasi, Western Anatolia, 60 years old. Within its 280 x 180 cm (9'2" × 5'11"), this kilim belongs to another category entirely. Its surface vibrates through every shade of red, from crimson to coral, from bordeaux to violet, with diamonds that emerge and dissolve back into the material like forms seen through mist. It is the wool itself that does the work, thread by thread, shade by shade, in a freedom that no geometric motif could ever attain.
