A large golden silhouette rises at the centre of this Obruk kilim, woven some 60 years ago, carried by an irregular outline that makes it resemble a tower built in stages, each one edged with small midnight blue hooks that bite into the yellow. A form that the weavers of the region shaped from memory, never quite repeating it in the same way, and which occupies here its 115 x 92 cm (3'9" × 3'0") with an almost architectural presence against a deep blue ground.
All around, a dense red border of small blue and white diamonds frames the field, itself caught between two broad navy blue bands where cup-shaped motifs parade past, each rendered in a different shade, pink, turquoise, brown, proof of a wool dyed in small successive quantities. A kilim of singular design, that resembles no other.
