Some 65 years ago, in the region of Obruk, in Central Anatolia, a weaver brought into being this red point that crosses the entire kilim from bottom to top, like a flame frozen in the wool. A broad band of white triangles, aligned like teeth, traces its two slopes against an almost solar yellow-green ground that has lost none of its radiance.
All around, a slate grey border unrolls its diamonds and crosses across these 190 x 145 cm (6'3" × 4'9"), each dyed in a shade slightly different from its neighbour, the discreet signature of a wool spun and dyed by hand, bath by bath. This rug has that rare strength of pieces woven without a model, where the eye never tires of discovering a new detail.
