Pamukkale, Western Anatolia, 60 years old. Within its 190 x 128 cm (6'3" × 4'2"), this kilim composes itself like a piece of architecture. At the centre, a column of khaki green and red hexagonal medallions follows one another with precision, flanked by large white tree motifs on a red ground that spread their branches with an almost vegetal generosity.
The chocolate brown border that holds everything together, the solar yellow frieze running along the top and bottom, each layer has its own voice, and yet everything is heard.
