Pamukkale, Western Anatolia, 65 years old. Within its 274 x 155 cm (8'12" × 5'1"), this kilim plays on contrasts with elegance.

The black border running all the way around holds firmly a composition in which terracotta, ochre and powder pink follow one another in hexagons and floral motifs with a softness that time has refined still further. What the black contains, the colours inhabit fully.
