This kilim has two lives. The first in Anatolian homes, stretched as a wall hanging or laid as a floor divan, this hand-woven hemp kept cool through the heat of summers. The second, within these 210 x 140 cm (6'11" × 4'7") recomposed, where fragments of different origins have been sewn together to form something new without erasing what they were.
The off-white of natural hemp, the black stripes that appear and disappear from one panel to the next without following any apparent logic, the visible seams that tell of the assembly without concealing it. There is in this piece a rare honesty, that of materials that never sought to be beautiful and are so nonetheless.
