Pozantı, South-Eastern Anatolia, approximately 60 years old. Within these 136 x 95 cm (4'5" × 3'1"), two large blue-grey diamond medallions face one another on a warm bordeaux ground, surrounded by a constellation of saffron yellow star and hook motifs that seem to dance around them.
What makes this piece unforgettable is that balance between the warmth of the ground and the coolness of the blue-grey, between the density of the black borders and the lightness of what takes place at the centre. Woven by hand in a natural wool that sixty years have rendered silky, this is the kind of kilim one lays down and never questions again.
