Across this deep red ground stretching over 350 x 162 cm (11'6" × 5'4"), ten hexagonal medallions arrange themselves in two columns like the panels of a narrative read from top to bottom, each different in its interior colour, blue-grey, dark brown, pale salmon, and each inhabited by small mirrored motifs that resemble objects, symbols, perhaps words. Between them, schematic human silhouettes appear against the red ground, discreet, almost timid, like witnesses who slipped into the composition uninvited.
Two panels sewn together, two distinct vegetable dye baths, two moments of life inscribed in the wool. This is what one only sees after looking for a long time, and what makes this piece something one never quite finishes discovering.
