The Sene is a weaving technique originating in Sanandaj, in Iranian Kurdistan, recognisable by its fine weft and its repeated motifs of a rare delicacy. A craft apart, belonging to a world entirely distinct from that of the Anatolian kilim.
Woven by hand in natural wool some 70 years ago, this 290 x 136 cm (9'6" × 4'5") kilim carries the full sophistication of this tradition. Across its deep chocolate brown field, a constellation of tiny orange florets repeats itself endlessly like a starlit sky seen from the desert. The closer one draws, the more one discovers. The further one steps back, the more one is seized.
