Within these 78 x 59 cm (2'7" × 1'11") from Sivas, burnt orange and chocolate brown diamonds cover the entire surface without leaving the slightest empty space, each carrying at its centre a cream and red cross motif that seems to hold the entire composition from within.
There is in this small format something whole and accomplished. The wool has taken on over approximately 65 years a light patina that reveals the grain of the weave, and the red ground that surfaces between the diamonds warms the whole like an ember one had forgotten there.
