Once, it was unfolded on the bare ground of the encampment, and for a moment it became the centre of the world, the one around which an entire family would draw close before taking to the road again. This sofra, woven some 60 years ago, holds the memory of those pauses suspended in time, when the journey stopped just long enough for everyone to find one another again. Each band replays that moment, orange and lilac, water green and coral, black and red, cut on the diagonal like two days answering one another, scattered with small symbols, crosses, S-shapes, diamonds, slipped in at the impulse of a free hand.
Across its 120 x 100 cm (3'11" × 3'3"), this kilim calculated nothing, and that is precisely what makes it precious, it still breathes the spontaneity of a moment stolen from the road. Few pieces manage to hold so much life in so little space, a rarity that does not pass twice.
