Before becoming what you see, it was a bag. A Caucasian cuval carried, loaded, then opened to give it a second life within these 157 x 45 cm (5'2" × 1'6") that still hold the memory of both existences.
The Soumak technique wraps the wool differently. Thicker, almost tactile. Two panels reveal embroidered motifs in white and gold on a deep black ground. The red that frames everything still burns after approximately 55 years. Around it, a constellation of small pink, orange and green flowers radiates in every direction, like fireworks frozen in the wool.
