Tavas is a market town in the province of Denizli, in south-western Anatolia. Its kilims are recognisable by their composition of interlocking geometric medallions, hexagons and diamonds that repeat across the entire surface, each with a different interior motif. This is what gives this type of kilim its visual energy.
This one is approximately 60 years old. The palette is dense and contrasted: bordeaux, olive green, burnt orange, slate grey, pink, ivory. The almost square format, 245 x 196 cm (8'0" × 6'5"), is rare for the region and allows a large living room or dining room to be covered without any constraint of axis.
