Modern Waziri kilim - 142 x 103 cm

The Waziri style carries within it the memory of the Afghan high plateaus, where colours always seem to want to make up for time lost beneath the snow. Across this hand-woven kilim, three large medallions stack like three suns answering one another, orange and emerald green, each warmed at its heart by a burst of red and coral, against a water green ground as fresh as a mountain spring.

All around, a border takes up that same generous palette, crosses and hourglasses in red, yellow and violet, that recall the jewellery once worn along the trading routes of Central Asia. A resolutely living piece, woven with the same exigence as the most ancient ones.
