Vintage kilim Yesilova – 207 × 140 cm

This Yesilova kilim has something spellbinding about it. At the centre of these 207 x 140 cm (6'9" × 4'7"), three orange medallions follow one another vertically, each crowned with a small heart motif, connected by long branches with curved tips like antlers, white and terracotta, against an anthracite grey ground ringed with vivid red. Between the medallions, two discreetly woven letters, an H and a V, perhaps carry the signature of the one who knotted this kilim.

Woven by hand some 60 years ago, it is set within a deep black border that anise yellow and solar orange medallions illuminate like lanterns in the night. A piece where the weaver's gesture can still be read, almost like a confidence.
