Vintage Yesilova kilim – 300 x 180 cm

Yesilova usually composes more classical, more expected motifs. This one chose excess. Within these 300 x 180 cm (9'10" × 5'11") woven on a nomadic loom, a tight checkerboard of red, grey, cream, green and black squares unrolls, square by square, the same motif repeated to infinity, two opposing triangles drawing an hourglass crossed by a horizontal arrow, that ancient symbol uniting sky and earth, man and woman, like an invisible thread stretched between two worlds reaching out for one another.

Each square carries its own shade, darker here, paler there, the mark of a wool spun and dyed in several baths, never reproduced identically. Repeated hundreds of times across the full width of the kilim, this motif of the hourglass and the bond becomes almost a woven incantation, the silent promise that nothing ever remains quite separate.
