A large red diamond occupies the entire centre of this Yozgat kilim, a land of transhumance at the heart of Central Anatolia, woven some 60 years ago. At its heart, a brown band opens onto a constellation of small pink, yellow, grey and green diamonds, connected to one another like a starlit sky laid upon the wool. Against a vivid olive green ground, framed by a red border with sharp teeth, this 97 x 58 cm (3'2" × 1'11") kilim asserts a rare, almost electric colour contrast.
At the four corners of the green field, small eye-shaped medallions in pink, grey and orange keep quiet watch over the whole, while the vivid tones, fuchsia pink, saffron yellow, orange, betray a dye among the most expressive that wool can carry. A kilim that never seeks restraint, and has no need of it.
