There are kilims one looks at like a painting. This one from Zara, woven at the heart of Anatolia some 65 years ago, is among them. Its 300 x 200 cm (9'10" × 6'7") organise themselves in large panels that deep bordeaux bands come to separate, creating a division that is almost architectural.
Within each panel, the orange and red geometric motifs vibrate with an intensity that the dark frame surrounding them renders all the more striking.
