Within these 135 x 105 cm (4'5" × 3'5"), the entire soul of Adana is held in a few rows of hexagonal medallions that touch, answer, and lock into one another in a soft and patinated palette, aged pink, sage green, orange dulled by time, deep black, cream.
This small format carries the density of much larger pieces. Each medallion bears at its centre a mirrored motif that the weavers of the South-East wove like a talisman, a symmetrical and closed form, turned inward, like something being protected. Some 60 years later, one still does not know quite what it was keeping safe. But one feels it was precious.
