Balikesir, Western Anatolia, 60 years old. Within its 220 x 120 cm (7'3" × 3'11"), this kilim plays in reds with a freedom that only vegetable dyes know how to give. From bordeaux to raspberry, the shades vary subtly from one area to the next, living traces of distinct dye baths. The large grey sawtooth forms undulating on either side do the rest.
