Beddik, approximately 70 years old, two panels sewn together with a rarely seen precision of symmetry. The central seam is invisible, so perfect is the execution, the two halves answering one another motif for motif with an exactness that bears witness to an uncommon mastery. The slate blue borders carry the symbol of infinity in repetition, that endless loop that weavers wove like a prayer.
Across this deep red ground, dozens of white diamonds interlock over 305 x 190 cm (10'0" × 6'3"), and within each one lives a different motif, orange, olive green, slate blue-grey, mauve. That blue has a particular quality one cannot quite name, somewhere between stone and sky, between grey and water. It gives the entire piece a depth that photographs will never truly capture.
