Emirdağ knows how to do things simply and powerfully. Within these 165 x 88 cm (5'5" × 2'11"), a large lavender grey medallion occupies the entire centre like an inverted flame, encircled by a vivid red that black and saffron yellow borders frame with an almost architectural precision. Inside the medallion, three small orange diamonds descend in column like embers suspended in mist.
This is a kilim that needs only one idea to exist, and holds it from the first thread to the last with a rare assurance. Woven by hand some 60 years ago in Central Anatolia, in a natural wool that time has rendered denser still, more alive still.
