Fethiye, western Anatolia, 60 years old. This 227 x 153 cm (7'5" × 5'0") kilim resembles no other. Its fine, closely set vertical bands unfold in a palette of orange, pink and yellow that small floral motifs scattered here and there punctuate like notes of music. There is in this kilim something joyful and unabashed, a lightness that kilims of large medallions do not possess.
