Usak, a key city in the textile production of Aegean Anatolia, has been known for centuries for its kilims of balanced composition and dense wool. Woven by hand some 65 years ago, this small 100 x 73 cm (3'3" × 2'5") format commands a presence its size does not prepare one for.
Its large hourglass motifs in red, orange and anthracite grey follow one another on a cream ground with a quiet authority, as though each row knew exactly where it was going.
